Why is it called “Blackjack”? That’s the golden hand! When the first two cards dealt to you are an Ace and a card that’s worth 10 (10, Jack, Queen, King), you can go ahead and yell “Blackjack” When you get a “Blackjack,” you win automatically unless the dealer also has blackjack, in which case it is a push (tie). A “Blackjack” pays 3 to 2, all other wins pay even. For example: you bet 2 dollars, get a “Blackjack”, and win 3 dollars. You bet 2 dollars, win with a 20 against the dealer’s 17, and get paid 2 dollars. Getting a “Blackjack” is sometimes called a “natural”. The objective of the game is to get closer to a total point count of 21 than the dealer without going over. If you get closer than the dealer without going over 21 or the dealer goes over 21, you win the amount of the bets placed. If the dealer is closer to 21 or you go over 21, you lose. If you and the dealer have a tie, then nobody wins. This is called a “push”.Each card counts its value (e.g., a card of six has six points), with some exceptions. A jack, queen, or king counts ten points;and an ace can count as either one or eleven points, whichever is more advantageous. The suits have no significance at all.2. First the cards are dealt. If you have 21 with your first two cards, you win immediately. This combination is called “blackjack.” If you have a blackjack, you win one and a half times the amount of your bet. If the dealer gets a blackjack, you lose immediately.
